Family Violence Practitioner

The primary purpose of the Family Violence Practitioner is to help serve the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, responding to those that need support, supporting them throughout their journey toward recovery and resilience, whilst also educating and working with our community to prevent violence from happening in the first place. You will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated range of services appropriate to the needs of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Community. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide individual interventions, case management and outreach services to victim survivors and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with and deliver case management for individuals experiencing family violence, and their families
  • Plan and deliver advocacy and linkages to women who are experiencing family violence
  • Communicate and build strong relationships with our Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander community
  • Complete intake and risk assessments, using the MARAM framework, assess immediate and ongoing needs to women and children, develop safety and support plans and provide crisis and ongoing case support
  • Work within a client-centered case management practice and evidence-based interventions, whilst promoting independence, resilience, and enhanced quality of life
  • Develop culturally appropriate interventions by collaborating with clients and their communities to develop culturally sensitive intervention plans that respect their cultural values, practices, and beliefs
  • Assist clients in navigating and accessing relevant social, educational, health, and community resources, ensuring they are culturally appropriate and accessible
  • Conduct workshops, training sessions, and community education initiatives to enhance cultural awareness, empower individuals, and strengthen community resilience
  • Maintain high level of integrity and regard for professional boundaries, confidentiality and the ability to maintain sensitive information

About You:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work or other equivalent qualification; OR lived experienced OR cultural expertise (with relevant professional experience and a willingness and commitment to complete a bachelor’s degree)
  • Registration with the appropriate Australian Registration Body (such as AASW/AHPRA)
  • An understanding of the issues relating to family violence, in an individual, structural, and family context
  • Ability to communicate and build connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Demonstrated experience and capabilities in assessment, and risk management, crisis intervention and case management
